Good Health Starts With Good Design

Your Body's Top Priority, Digestive Health.

If you neglect your digestive health, your body could run into problems digesting foods and absorbing those nutrients. By taking steps to improve your digestive health, your digestive system will function more efficiently, improving your overall health and sense of well-being.

Making digestive health your top priority is one of the most important things you can do for your whole body! If your body cannot properly digest, absorb and assimilate nutrients and eliminate waste, then it is nearly impossible to obtain optimal health.

Are you experiencing a chronic, long-standing complicated and even baffling health problem? Perhaps you have consulted numerous health care professionals and been through numerous tests only to be told everything is showing normal in the tests. But the symptoms continue! The good news is you are not diseased, however finding why you feel so bad is still a priority.

When the cause cannot be identified medically, the problem often lies in the area of diet and nutrition. Proper “gut” function is imperative when addressing what seems to be totally unrelated conditions. If your gut isn’t happy, your body isn’t happy!

Poor digestion impacts more than you may realize. When something goes wrong during the digestive process, the gut is not only effected, but also your immune system, hormonal system and nervous system.

There are five separate processes that take place during digestion:

  1. Selection of good nutrient dense foods
  2. Breakdown of food into usable nutrients through chewing and digestive enzymes
  3. Absorption through the gut wall
  4. Assimilation and utilization of nutrients at a cellular level
  5. Elimination of waste products produced.

Eating high quality organic foods are not the only answer to good digestive health. The body must be able to concentrate digestive enzymes to break down the foods into individual nutrients that can pass the gut wall, another words be absorbed, and then pass the cell wall, assimilated, for energy production and lastly the waste product be removed timely.

When any of these steps are not completed then the body is not properly “fueled” and cannot function optimally.

Our body is no different than our cars. If your car takes unleaded fuel and you give it diesel the car won’t work well or work at all for that matter!

Typical symptoms of poor digestion include gas, bloating, acid reflux, constipation or diarrhea. Common over the counter or prescription medications prescribed to help with these concerns often time actually make digestion worse as it limits your body’s ability to breakdown, absorb or assimilate important nutrients.

Plant based digestive enzymes have long been the go to remedy for naturopathic doctors in solving these problems and often lead to relative quick results. Most clients with digestive issues do not all have the same symptoms, for example some have gas or acid reflex, while others diarrhea. Naturopathic doctors are trained to identify which plant based digestive enzymes would work best for your individual situation.
