“For years I have craved sugary foods, but didn’t know why. When I saw the local community center was offering a program on Stressed Out Bodies; Cravings, What Are These About I was intrigued to learn more. Michelle Sanderbeck's presentation helped me to understand why my body was craving certain foods and how to give my body the food and nutrients it needs so that I won’t crave the foods that I know that are not good for my health.” Andrew S.

  • Who can benefit from naturopathic care?

Naturopathic care can help all types of conditions. It is effective for many chronic conditions such as allergies, asthma, fibromyalgia, digestive disorders, and chronic pain, as well as fatigue, headaches, and depression. It is also effective for preventing health problems.

  • What is a Doctor of Naturopathy (ND)?

Naturopathic doctors combine the wisdom of nature with the rigors of modern science. Steeped in traditional healing methods, principles and practices, naturopathic medicine focuses on holistic, proactive prevention and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. By using protocols that minimize the risk of harm, naturopaths help facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal health. It is the naturopath’s role to identify and remove barriers to good health by helping to create a healing internal and external environment.

A naturopath understands that in nature there is an innate intelligence applied to an inherent desire to heal. The human body is capable of healing itself as long as obstacles in the healing path are removed.

Naturopathic health is committed to the creation of a healthy body in which we may thrive and contribute to our family, community and world for positive change. It is the health care you may have been looking for but never knew what is was called! Welcome to Be Well. Western Carolina, LLC.

    As a Naturopath

    • I focus on you as a whole, not your symptoms
    • I provide you with a process to health, not medication to defeat a disease entity
    • I see your diagnosis as a description of your symptoms, not the cause of them
    • I see you as the healer, not the victim
    • I teach, ask questions, provide opportunities and support: you find the answers and do the work
    • We work together in your healing process
  • What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is based on the belief that the human body has an innate ability to get and keep itself healthy. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) teach their patients to use diet, exercise, lifestyle changes, and cutting edge natural therapies to enhance their bodies’ abilities to ward off and combat dis-ease. An ND views a patient as a complex, interrelated system – a whole person – not just a clogged artery or a tumor. Naturopathic doctors craft comprehensive plans using traditional natural approaches to restore health.

Naturopathic Health is based in six underlying principles of healing.

    • First, do no harm. Naturopathic doctors use low-risk procedures and healing compounds – such as dietary supplements, herbal extracts, and homeopathic remedies – with few or no side effects.
    • Identify and treat the cause. Symptoms are only going to return unless the root cause of the illness is addressed. Rather than cover up symptoms, naturopaths seek to find and deal with the cause of the symptoms.
    • Working with the whole person. We each have a unique physical, mental, emotional, genetic environmental, social, sexual, and spiritual makeup. A naturopath knows that all these factors affect our health. That’s why she includes them in a carefully-tailored health strategy.
    • Let nature heal. Our bodies have a powerful, innate instinct for self-healing. By finding and removing the barriers to this self-healing – such as poor diet or unhealthy habits – naturopaths can nurture this process.
    • Educate patients. The word “Doctor” literally means “Teacher.” That’s why naturopathic doctors teach their patients how to eat, exercise, relax, and nurture themselves physically and emotionally. They also encourage self-responsibility and work closely with each patient.
    • Prevent illness. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” has never been truer. Proactive medicine saves money, pain, misery, and lives. That’s why naturopaths evaluate risk factors, heredity, and vulnerability to disease. By focusing on greater wellness, we are less likely to need treatment for future illness.
  • What is digestive health and why is digestive health so important?

Good health starts with good digestion. Your digestive tract is one of the most important systems in your entire body. If your body cannot properly digest, absorb and assimilate nutrients and eliminate waste products timely, it is impossible to achieve optimal health.

When the digestion system is not working properly it affects more than just your gut, but also your immune, nervous and hormonal systems.

Even eating a healthy diet, your body may not be able to produce the enzymes necessary to provide the essential nutrients to your body at a cellular level which may lead to development of inflammation and allergies.

Inadequate digestive enzyme function can lead to difficulty breaking down foods properly, which can contribute to indigestion, gas, bloating, and constipation. Plant based enzymes are a wonderful solution to these problems and out clients see quick results.

Common medications taken to suppress stomach acid may actually make digestion worse and will limit your body’s ability to provide “fuel”, the nutrients including vitamin, mineral to the body at a cellular level. Proper gut function is critical… without a happy gut, your body is not happy!

70% of our immune system is in our digestive tract. If our digestive system isn’t healthy, neither is our immune function, making you prone to immune dysfunction. That makes it very important to keep our digestive system working in tip top condition.
