“For years I have craved sugary foods, but didn’t know why. When I saw the local community center was offering a program on Stressed Out Bodies; Cravings, What Are These About I was intrigued to learn more. Michelle Sanderbeck's presentation helped me to understand why my body was craving certain foods and how to give my body the food and nutrients it needs so that I won’t crave the foods that I know that are not good for my health.” Andrew S.

pH Balancing

Critical For Optimal Health

pH balancing in the body is critical to optimal health. A poor pH balance in the body can cause many health problems and a general feeling of ill health.

There seems to be a lot of confusion when it comes to body pH balance. In a healthy body the pH of the interstitial fluids and inside of the cells should be slightly alkaline.

However, for most of us, our cells and fluids have become slightly acidic.

Too much acidity in the human body can lead to a variety of health problems. According to "Prescription for Nutritional Healing," acidity and alkalinity are measured by the pH scale. pH literally stands for potential of hydrogen. Water is neutral with a pH of 7.0. Anything below 7.0 is acidic, and anything above 7.0 is alkaline. There are three measurement of pH, blood, saliva and urine. The blood pH should be 7.365 to 7.465. The body does whatever it needs to do to keep the pH within this range, meaning it will beg, borrow or steal minerals from other organs and tissues to maintain this range.

The urine and saliva pH give us a very good indicator of how well we are helping keep this balance. The range for urine and saliva should be between 6.2 to 6.6. It is easy to measure just pick up some pH strips that measure in .2 increments and test at home.

So why are our body’s more acidic? This is due to many factors, however the primary reason is due to the Standard American Diet, commonly referred to as SAD, where most of the foods are acid forming. Other factors contributing to an acidic body includes the cumulative toxic burden over the years of heavy metals, food additives, chemicals, bacteria, viruses, plastics, pesticides, etc, and the use of pharmaceuticals like antibiotics.

Effects of a pH imbalance includes:

  • poor elimination- either too fast or too slow
  • poor digestion• joint pain
  • low energy
  • hormonal issues
  • mal-absorbtion of minerals
  • lung stress
  • skin problems
  • fungus
  • parasites
  • insomnia
  • headaches
  • frequent sighing
  • water retention
  • low blood pressure
  • foul-smelling stools
  • difficulty swallowing
  • sensitivity to vinegar and acidic fruits
  • bumps on the tongue

Maintaining proper pH of urine and saliva between 6.2-6.6 will insure the body’s ability to uptake vitamins and minerals. When the pH reading of saliva and urine are outside this range essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals cannot be absorbed by the body.

How many of you take a multivitamin.? If your pH is lower than 5.7 or higher than 7.1 the body can’t absorb many vitamins and minerals…. So basically they are going down the toilet… literally!

One of the most important organs we have is our liver… and it requires water, Oxygen, Calcium, Vitamin A, Iron and Iodine in that order. Iodine is available when the pH is between 6.3 – 6.6. Our liver is instrumental in so many functions from filtering all toxins to proper cholesterol production which is a precursor for hormone production.

pH should be checked several times a day to determine a pattern. Once the pH pattern has been determined then changing food choices and supplementation can be modified to bring the pH within the healthy range.

Michelle shows you how to check your pH levels in the video below.
